Where are the lessons held?
The lessons are held at Camp Chief Hector which is a YMCA facility, 20k east of Canmore on Highway 1.
Do I need to have experience with horses?
Experience with horses is not required as we provide a training day where volunteers will learn the volunteer roles and instruction on grooming and tacking the horses.
What will I be doing?
We have two roles during the lesson, leading and side walking. Leaders are responsible for leading the horse around the arena or during trail rides. Side walkers will walk next to the horse and rider and are responsible for providing support to the rider as required.
In addition, we always appreciate help to groom and tack the horses in preparation for the lessons.
How long are the lessons?
The lessons are one hour long, but we ask volunteers to arrive an hour before the lesson if they would like to prepare the horses.
Do I have to commit to all the lessons?
You do not have to commit to all the lessons, however we do ask that you give us as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend a lesson which you are scheduled for.
How many lessons are there?
We have three programs during the year (Spring, Summer and Fall). Each program consists of five lessons.
What forms do I need to fill out?
We have two forms to fill out which can be found on our website or contact Sam (volunteer@rundleriders.com)
Are the lessons cancelled if the weather is bad?
No, if the weather is to bad for riding, the lesson will be modified. Activities during these lessons could include learning about horse, grooming, tacking etc.
Can my kids volunteer too?
We can only accept volunteers over the age of 18.
Is there public transit to Camp Chief Hector?
There is no public transit to Camp Chief Hector. If transport is an issue for you please contact Sam (volunteer@rundleriders.com)
What if I cannot come to the volunteer training session?
In some cases we may be able to facilitate some one-on-one training.
